Can’t I just ask my contractor their opinion on my flooring, lighting, etc?
Technically yes, but not if you want to ensure your home is designed as a true reflection of you. I love working with contractors – they are excellent at building a home. However, in my experience, most contractors are not as concerned with the ‘what’ is going in your new home as much as the ‘how’ they are going to put it in. An interior designer will get to know you, your family, your needs & wants and how you live. We will be there to coordinate the flooring to the cabinets and the backsplash, the lighting to the hardware and the plumbing fixtures. We will understand the vision & feel you want in your home and take the time to visit showrooms with you or gather samples for a full presentation. Bringing in a designer at the beginning of your project, helps ensure the layout of your new home or remodel not only looks beautiful, but functions for your needs as well.
Do you manage my entire project?
Sunrise Design is not set up as a general contractor and does not offer project management services. When you go into contract with your builder or contractor, that person or company will act as your Project Manager. However, we do provide ongoing design consulting during the construction phase in which I am able to communicate with your contractor or subs, answer any additional design questions that may come up, visit the job site during construction & installation to “keep an eye on things,” and to make sure that what is being built & installed is according to the design we have created together.
How long will our project take?
Generally, the design phase of a project takes about four to six weeks depending upon how large the project is and how many spaces we are designing. It is not as fast as they make it look on TV and in fact, the design process should be done carefully and with thought. These are important choices and as your advocate, I can make sure we do not rush through them. For additions or whole-house construction, this process can be longer. When it comes to the construction phase, the timeline depends on the scope of the project and will be determined by your contractor.
How do we get started?
It’s simple and fast: email me or give me a call to set up an initial, 15-minute discovery call! This is a quick ‘meet and greet’ call where I learn a little about you and your project. I’ll send you my ‘Getting to Know You’ questionnaire and invoice for an Initial Consultation. At the consultation we will discuss your design dilemmas and I will give you actionable advice on your design project. If you’d like to continue working with me for additional Design Services, we will review and sign your contract at the end of your consultation.
