Design Consultation

All our projects begin with a Design Consultation.

This up to 2-hour meeting may be all that you need to help you, or it may be the first step in establishing your needs, desires and the scope of work for your next home or renovation.

The Design Consultation can help get you focused with establishing a plan to simplify your life.

You’ll be a great fit if:

  • You are overwhelmed & confused about where to start or how to prioritize each phase of your project

  • You want design recommendations for room layouts and selecting colors

  • You’re looking for ways to get more function out of the space you have

  • You need help deciding what furnishings you should keep and what new items to purchase.

  • You’re unsure about what materials to use when selecting new countertops, tile, lighting, flooring, etc.

  • You want peace of mind that you’re making wise investments and that you will get a finished look that functions for your lifestyle

Following the Consultation

We offer various services to best suit your needs. Let us ease the decision making process, create a functional plan of action and allow you to visualize how your new space will look, before you begin construction. We want your home to be a reflection of your lifestyle, while giving you both functionality and a beautiful home. You’re in good hands.

3D Concept and Layout

Have you ever wanted to see what your space would look like before knocking down those walls? (hint: It's a good idea!)

The 3D Concept & Layout can help you "see" your project before the hammer has even swung!

Each successful project has two elements: a plan and a process. A big mistake that people often make in starting a design project is not planning out the specifics, which leads to quick decision making, overlooked details and unnecessary money being spent.

Having a plan and a process to follow can help save you time, money, and quite possibly, your mind!

Ideal for the client who says:

~ “I am a visual person & would love to see your ideas for our space.”

~ “It would be so helpful to understand exactly how our home is going to look before we undergo a renovation.”

~ “I just can’t visualize how my space is going look if we remove a wall / add an island / move the stove.”

Finishes Made Easy

Choosing Finishes Made Easy-

Don’t take risks when choosing finishes for your home; one small mistake in the selection process can compromise an entire design. We assist in selecting and pulling together all of the hard finishes for your remodel so that you know which items you or your contractor will need to purchase.

This is a great option if you are remodeling your main floor, completing an unfinished basement or building an entirely new home and want to ensure all the materials come together beautifully.

This can include fixed elements such as:

  • Cabinetry - color, style, hardware

  • Countertops & Profile Selections

  • Backsplash & Grout Recommendations

  • Tile for your shower

  • Plumbing Fixtures - faucets, sinks, tubs & shower controls

  • Flooring

  • Lighting

  • Fireplace

  • Paint Colors - walls, ceiling, trim

  • Exteriors - siding, roofing, windows, trim, stone

Kitchen and Bath Design

Building or remodeling a kitchen or bathroom can be stressful.

With dozens of decisions to be made – the layout, the style, the finishes, the function, and on and on – where do you even start?

Bringing in an experienced designer can create a valuable partnership in the design of your new kitchen or bathroom. We can be there to sort through all of the available options, to select finishes that are cohesive for your home, and with the help of today’s technology, we can even show you what your new space will look like before construction begins.

I will help you make the big decisions, as well as the minute, that pull your space together into a cohesive and functional home. I have the experience to know what will and won’t work efficiently, and could keep you from ending up with a kitchen or bath that does not meet your needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you charge for a consultation?

Yes. Our Initial Consultation is so much more than just a meet and greet. This is a working meeting where we will delve into the design dilemmas you are having with your home; we will openly discuss options and I will give you ideas on how I am envisioning your space. I don’t believe in keeping ideas to myself during the consultation and would have a hard time doing so. I would much prefer you come away with actionable feedback you can implement on your own or an understanding of the direction I am moving towards if you decide to continue with additional design services through Sunrise Design.

What is the difference between using Sunrise Design and an in-store designer?

When working with an in-store designer, you are limited to the in-store products supplied by that retailer. This may mean one in-store designer for your cabinetry, another for your faucets, yet another for your flooring, and so on. Trust me, I’ve been the in-store designer, and the constraints are not fun. As an independent interior designer, Sunrise Design is not limited to a single source for any given material. We work with a variety of trusted vendors and suppliers to provide you with a diverse array of products, materials, finishes and furnishings to give you an exciting, one-of-a-kind design.

How much will I invest in Interior Design services?

This will vary depending on the size of the project and scope of work. We start off with an Initial Consultation at $295, which may be all you need to get your project rolling. Our design services, including 3D renderings or finish selection packages, start at $750 for a single room and can range from $4000-$7000 for a full home Comprehensive Design. With the average new home cost of nearly $400,000, your investment would only be about 1-2% of your home’s value in order to guarantee you are satisfied with the design of your new home.

When should I hire an Interior Designer?

While you can hire an interior designer at any point in the process, it is generally best to have one on your side and working as your advocate as early as possible, especially if your project involves construction. An interior designer can review plan sets and make sure there is enough usable space to meet your goals. We will work with you to source and specify all materials and finishes, allowing your contractor to get accurate bids to manage your budget. We can also create 3D renderings for you to see your space before any work begins, creating less change orders after construction has started.

Do you manage my entire project?

No. Sunrise Design is not set up as a general contractor and does not offer project management services. When you go into contract with your contractor, that person or company will act as your Project Manager. However, we do provide ongoing design consulting during the construction phase in which I am able to communicate with your contractor or subs, answer any additional design questions that may come up, visit the job site during construction & installation to “keep an eye on things,” and to make sure that what is being built & installed is according to the design we have created together.

Do you assist with budget, planning and sticking to it?

Having a clear budget is very important for the project running smoothly and for your expectations to be met. However, if you tell me you want all new Sub-Zero appliances but have a total kitchen budget of $20,000, I will help you understand that those two factors together do not equal a realistic budget. My job is not necessarily to give you all of your wants within your stated budget, but to show you on where it will be worth it to splurge and where we can save while still protecting the integrity of the design. We will discuss your budget throughout the process and make adjustments as necessary to ensure a realistic budget for your wants and needs are met. Every effort will be made to work within your ideal budget parameters, but ultimately it is up to you, the homeowner, to keep yourself on budget.

How do we get started?

It’s simple and fast: contact us to set up an initial, 15-minute discovery call! This is a quick ‘meet and greet’ call where I learn a little about you and your project. I’ll send you my ‘Getting to Know You’ questionnaire and invoice for an Initial Consultation. At the consultation we will discuss your design dilemmas and I will give you actionable advice on your design project. If you’d like to continue working with me for additional Design Services, we will review and sign your contract at the end of your consultation.
